Pointers like C in PHP??

Oh! PHP Wizards.....I am here with a Q.

Does PHP support pointer Arithmetic? What is the string terminator in PHP? '\0'? As in C?

I am trying to parse a long string, and pick out bits and pieces from it and make some sense. Lets say I have the following string.

Jane Wells,778 Coral Dr. ,,Coral Springs,FL,33071,[e-mail],,married</nad>

ok I am pulling out the domain in the email and the street, first two numbers in the zip etc.

Whats the best way to do such a circus. It is such a cool thing in C, because I can access it as an array or a pointer, I know where the string ends and so on...

Can you enlighten me on this please?

If you can guarentee that the values are comma delmited, then you can use explode() based on the comma. For the domain, it's a simple substr() and strpos() based on the @.

So, I presume PHP doesnt have the concept of Pointers. And toy around with strings like this at a low level.

No it doesn't that would be a security hole as memory leaks could crash the web server. However you can just access a string like an array $stringVar{##} and \0 is the string terminator
