Image zoom, pan, coordinates

On the site above, the use coordinates, zoom and pan functions.

Take a look in the statusbar whem you move you mouse on the picture.
The numbers that you see, are Belgium Lambert coordinates.

Some one an idea how to do it?

My images are created by the GIS artickel from a few months ago.

You might consider using SVG (scalable vector graphics), with PHP and MySQL, for interactive GIS applications.

SVG offers excellent zooming features.

And since SVG files are XML format, using SVG with PHP5 + SimpleXML can be the next step (instead of MySQL for the data source).

The only downside to using SVG is that your visitors will need to download a free SVG plugin for their browsers (plugin available from .. adobe.com SVG plugin download ). But SVG will become more of a standard.

Many SVG maps are now published for GIS applications. Research your local ordnance survey web-site.

you can solve that with php&gd.

get the coordinates where the user clicked on the first picture.
calculate the corresponding area in the detailed picture and show some pixels around it.

I use that already.

I love to vieuw the coordinates in the bar left on the bottom.

And I have to grap them (coordinates), but I don't now how?

As I can see them (messure) I can create more and bether things.

My question is more special.

If you go to the link on my first post. When you move you mouse on the image. On the taskbar ou can see the coördinates in Lambert from belgium.

I would create somthing the same.

When You can display the coördinate, it mean that you can use them to do a search in the (my) database.

About the SVG thing, If you take a look on the site on my example, you don't have to downlaod something.
I believe thats something very easy, but how?

if you use <input type="image" name="map"...> there is no need for javascript coordinates. the clickerd area will be submitted as map.x and map.y

displaying the coordinates in the status bar can be made using javascript (for ie: event.offsetX and event.offsetY). but i think its unnecessarily compliated as i dont know a good solution for any browser... maybe someone else does, but i'd rather use map.x and map.y....

I should have pointed out that to view any examples of SVG carto at carto.net (or any other SVG examples)
you will first need to download and install the Adobe SVG viewer ..

thanks for pointing out that Mozilla has native SVG support .. only IE needs the plug-in ..

and for Opera browsers .. enabling SVG plug-in

i agree svg is very powerful, but the bad thing is that you need to install the plugin. on xp you need administrative rights to do so. well, all in all i am no plug-in fan 😉

Neader I like other plug-ins. If the change, you can start hole over.

On the example that I put into my first post, the don't use a plug-in.
