get the id from the link

i cant find a way to get some text on a page thats comming from the url..ok what i want to do is when someone clicks on a link that i give them like "www.mysite.com/?id=phpbuilder" i want on the page that they go to got the "id=" and to say welcome "phpbuilder" and if they dont have the "id=" to say welcome "their ip address"..... help would be needed thanks🙂
