[Resolved] Form var into php var onclick/onselect

I have this form

		  if (!$letter) 
			  {

			  else 
			  {

					  }
			  }
		}
	  ?>
    </select>
</form>

What I need is, when u select an option from the drop down whenever u select an option it will return the form var into a php var. Thanks guys!

Try this code.

You may need to use method="get" though. Try it with post and see if it works.

So if I use that, whats the name of the php var that holds the value of the form var?

In your example, I believe the php variable would be $select

or

$_POST['select'];

vryce is correct. Any time you have any sort of form field, the name of the PHP variable for that field will always be the "name" attribute of the field itself. Example:

<input type="text" name="myTextBox" size="40">

When you want to retrieve the value of the text box in PHP, you would use
$POST["myTextBox"] or $GET["myTextBox"] depending on the method of your form.

when i do what u try vryce, the page reloads and appends the form value into my url address /root/<value>

it should just let me reload the page and pass the var and do nothing to the url

Post variables are passed in the URL, get variables are not.

Let me look at your next post to see what I see.

One thing I did notice, in your form line, there is no action.
What is the output of that script? Does it give a blank page, or a page with something on it?

had to be:

submit()
