close new browser window and refresh parent

I have a problem I can't work out. This may require a touch of Java.

I have my main script on page main.php

from this page I open a new browser window (edit.php) with some edit features using MM_OnMouseClick

The new browser window (250 x 250) contains some edit choices which update mySQL

If the edit is made I need this new browser window (edit.php) to close and the main.php to refresh

How should I tackle this one
