Where to begin?

Hello,

I've done some PHP stuff before, but most of it was thrown together in a hurry. I learned it mostly on the fly and didn't use what I would call good practices. I may have another project coming up using PHP/MySQL. This time I want to do it right. I've read through the FAQ thread, but does someone have a simple project that illustrates good practices (including database access)? I think I'm going to use OOP, but do most people use templates for separating data from presentation? I want this project to be done right, but I really don't know what "right" is.

Any links, tips, thoughts, suggestions are greatly appreciated.

It is best practise to generate a content management system with a filemanager etc trying to do a flatfile version and a mysql version this would teach you to develop your skills. I have done this and it is tedious but the rewards at the end are vast and you would then not nbeed to ask for help so much.

then finally by analysing other peoples code

remember start small and aim high. by this i mean start with the login script tutorial then play around with the functions this teaches you. then move on to the next tutorial. after them download a cms and basic forum and analyse the code.
when starting off with cms and other scripts don't run before you can walk it is important to use comments to remind you of functions.
