[Resolved] what does .= mean?

ive run across .= a bunch of times now, and i dont know what it means, and i cant seem to find any documentation on it.... any help would be great, thx (im teaching myself, so please dont make fun 🙂)

It's a shortened concatination.

example:

$x = "Hello";
$y = " World";
$x .= $y;
echo $x;

//will return "Hello World"

//it's the same as doing:

$x = $x.$y;

I am also teaching myself ,and you have to start some where.

What I would do if you dont know what something does is first to check the PHP Manual, you will find a wealth of information and pretty much everything you will need to know.

But I do agree that its great to get help from the gurus on this board.
