need to change ft_min_word_len on hosted server w/no admin priv

I can access phpMyAdmin but I cannot access the option file. Does anyone know how to do this with my current resources?

I've tried using SET ft_min_word_len=3 through phpMyAdmin but I get an error of
#1193 - Unknown system variable 'ft_min_word_len'
I am using mySQL v. 4.0.20
