Detecting Browser close in middle of execution

Well I have a PHP page which when accessed runs in an infinite while loop outputting the status of certain devices to the browser.. The problem is I need the PHP to detect when the user clicks the stop button or closes the broswer so that I can close some of the remote sockets...

Hi vasanthm,

I think you're going to be in trouble if you intend to run an infinite loop in PHP.

PHP only runs on the server so the client can't interact with it directly, only by sending a 'page request' back to the server after PHP has finished.

well I am able to force output in middle of the loop by uisng flush.. The problem is that the PHP page connects to a telnet socket and needs to keep writing info to the browser (monitor data) untill the browser is closed or the stop button is pressed.. everything is working execpt I am not able to stop the socket when the user closes the browser.. it takes a while to detect that..

Sure, but as I said, the client can't interact with the server directly.
