Can you use a php var in a javascript function?

I want to verify a user via there password entered. I open a company db and read in the company wide password. Call it $CPassword.

I use the OnClick="return validatepw()" action on the submit button.

Can I use the $CPassword in the javascript function?

Am sure this is a newbie question.

now the javascript function dothis() can access the value of the php variable.
however in ur case i dont see any reason for u to take this approach. ideally how i wud do an authentication is...
1. accept password
2. user clicks on the ok button.
3. this results in a submit action.
4. In PHP ... the database is opened and queried to find the username and his/her password.
5. in PHP... the above queried username and password are matched with the values entered by the user (available to the script via the submitted values of the form).

so here i do not require javascript and PHP to talk.
