Setting a php variable 'onclick'

Hiya!

Been playing around with this for a day now and can't seem to find a solution. I'm trying to set a variable for use later in my code when a user clicks on a language flag on my page.

eg. The language flags look basically like this:

<td><a href=\"http://www.xxx.co.uk/hotel.php?hotelid=" . $Hotel_Id . " onclick=" . $LANGUAGE = "en\"><img src=\"english.gif\" border=\"0\"></a></td>
<td><a href=\"http://www.xxx.co.uk/hotel.php?hotelid=" . $Hotel_Id . " onclick=" . $LANGUAGE = "fr\"><img src=\"french.gif\" border=\"0\"></a></td>

I know the onclick=" . $LANGUAGE = "fr\" isn't correct, and i've been trying loads of different variations..... basically, i just want it to say that the language needs to be 'fr', so that later down the same page i can use this in the following line:

<?php
include ("http://www.abc.com/hotels.php3?LANGUAGE=" . $LANGUAGE . "&hotelid=" . $Hotel_Id . ");
?>

I'd be extremely grateful for anyone's ideas on this!

Had a similar dilemma...but i guess u cant do somethign like this .... for the logical reasoning that PHP being serverside i cannot set a variable value on the client side. i have to do a server trip. Maybe i'm wrong in my reasoning.

yikes! thanks for the help but it's not what i wanted to hear! don't suppose anyone has any ideas over what i could do instead?

When the user clicks on the flag just refresh the page and pass the flag variable over in a session/http variable along with all the original variables.
