mysql_close won't work, I need to close the connection

I need to use mysql_close because I have a script that can take several minuts to run... While runing it blocks other connections to the mysql server. (max 10 connections)

I read in an old php manual (user notes) that there was a problem if the script was runing on linux.

Anyone know how to fix this problem ?

(Yes, I know that the connection closes when script is finnished.)

if you script takes several minutes to run then the connection must be open for that amount of time. the connection will be closed either by calling mysql_close() or at the end of the script.

mysql_close doesn't close the conection... I checked with show processlist... The connection is still there, just in "sleep" mode.

The script does not need a connection to the mysql server more than in the start and in the end... in the middle (while downloading a file from a FTP and then parse it to the browser) it doesn't need it.

As I said before, I've read in the old php manual (user notes) people telling that mysql_close won't work on a linux server... I'm not 100% sure if it's still true... but when I checked the connection was still there after mysql_close.

More suggestions ? 🙂
