win2k and MSSQL hangup

server is win2k with sql2000 and php 5.0.2 windows install exe. When I connect to any php page after adding php_mssql extension the server times out. This includes even a simple <?php echo("hello")?>

• Copy ntwdblib.dll to the \winnt\system32 folder on the PHP box.

• Copy the php_mssql.dll to c:\winnt\system32

• Added to the php.ini file (\winnt\php.ini): extension=php_mssql.dll

• Added to the php.ini file
  extension_dir = "c:\WINNT\system32"

No offense but the install.exe from PHP has never worked for me. EVER in my life! IT is just soo easy to do it from the .zip it's incredible! Plus that will give you the total control over your server. Try just uninstalling PHP and doing it from the zip file. Also read the install.txt hehe before you start.
