Setting up existing Code on New Server - PHP and MySQL

I have recently taken over looking after someone's website after their old hosting company went under.
I have minimal experience in CGI scripting, but have never dealt with a MySQL database.
I have all the code (I believe - I haven't been able to test it yet!) - all php files, images, an 11 meg SQL file and am raring to go, although I don't know where to begin!
I'm sure I have to create the MySQL database on the new hosting company's server and then run the SQL code against this database to create tables, fields, records etc.

I will have FTP access to the server and PHPMyAdmin, but after uploading all files to the server I am at a loss of where to begin in creating this/commands to run the SQL against the (somehow) created database.

Once the site is back up to a working order I will finally get a chance to sit down and understand exactly what is going on where, but I am being pushed to get the site back up in the meantime.

Any help would be appreciated.

when you log into phpmyadmin, create a database (its fairly obvious). Then, click on sql and you can upload the sql file into mysql - it will process it into your newly created db.

as for using the database in your existing php, you will have to either set up the db using the same credentials (hostname, username, password, db name) or edit the scripts.

any php dev worth his salt will have some kind of config file listing common variables, so that you don't need to change these in every file.

I have found a "details.php" file that seems to contain the

$CFG->dbhost = "localhost";
$CFG->dbname = "xxxxxx";
$CFG->dbuser = "php";
$CFG->dbpass = "xxxx";
$CFG->site_root = etc

as you mentioned. Which I am assuming is the only reference to these details in the code.

I will upload these files and see how far I can get using a bit of trial and error.
