Date (period) problems...

I have a problem with my PHP script
and I am hoping that someone could help me to solve it.
Here is the thing: Lets say that we have a period of time
from 01.01.2005 to 31.03.2005. Inside this period
I would like to calculate how many weeks start and how many end with Saturday!
