Credit Card Type Validation

I am investigating possibilities for a client with
special requirements regarding an on-line payment
service.

Our client runs a service center for high profile
customers and wants to provide a limited on-line
service where only certain type of cards from specific
card providers are approved.

NOT all cards, only certain specified cards from each
card provider should be accepted in the on-line
service.

Sample case:
Can we identify and validate that the card used is a
valid American Express Platinum Card (NOT Green nor
Gold, etc), using an on-line payment service?
