Image resize

This might not be the appropriate forum for this question but I figured you guys would have run across a similiar request. I would like to control the size of the images that clients upload. I am currently using PHP_THUMB which works great for resizing on the fly.

The problem is that digital cameras are defaulting at pretty high resolution. I would like to optimize my disk space since I have a limit. I know I can put a file limit on the upload but in many cases the users are computer illeterate and they don't have any clue on how to reduce or resample the size.

I am looking for any third party software or sharware that will allow me to batch load images and set the resolution. If there is any other solution I would appreciate it. Any direction or ideas would be great.

you could determine the image's height and width in pixel in your html code , so no matter how big the image's resolution,the image will be resize to the size you determine

Example:
echo "<img src='$your_image' align='left' height='123' width='126' border='0'>

that will set your image to 123 X 126 pixel
no matter how big your image in '$your_image'

Thanks for the reply but I think you misunderstood me. I know how to change image size through html. I even have something better, its PHP THUMP which actually resamples on the fly. This works great but my problem lies within trying to save disk space, if I have thousands of pics than disk space will become a problem.

New Digital Cameras are now defaulting at up to 2400 or 3200 pixels. Your talking about 2 to 3 megs when the real size only needs to be around 50 - 150 kilobytes.

Since I have come across a lot of inexperienced and computer illeterate clients, I would like to find a somewhat affordable program that can easily batch large groups of images and save them at a smaller resolution. Programs like Photoshop are not only too expensive for most clients but it can be very overwhelming to a lot of novice computer users.

I know this isn't the best forum for this but I didn't know where else to go. I was hoping that someone out there knew of a shareware that does something similiar.

All this needs to be done on the clients computer before they upload them whether it be through a interface or ftp.

open source software under GNU Public License , you dont need
to pay a license to used it
