Aol Should Die

I have had aol broadband for a while since it is the only broadband service in the area, and it seems misleading to say that the internet is "allways on" when you have to have the aol program running in order to be connected. Unlike most broadband providers you can not just open mozzilla or ie and go to a website you have to have the large aol program running. I have just ignored this problem for a while now but now I want to switch to linux and since you can not run aol it will be imposible to get internet, does anyone know how to directly connect with out using the aol program?

Ok sorry I use to have AOL in the days when i didnt know much (actually that wasnt long ago).

I doubt you can im sure AOL has something that gets sent (some sort of key which the program provides) when it logs you on. If you wish to use Linux you may want to do a search on old faithful google for AOL and Linux. However dont be surprised to see limited results as many linux users think AOL is ****.

Have you ever thought of terminating your contract and going with another provider? (im sure theres more than one in your area)

Go to http://www.dslreports.com and you can look up all the dsl/cable providers available in your area. You sure AOL is the only game in town? I thought they typically piggy-back over another carrier for service (like Time Warner) which would mean you could go with AOL or Time Warner.
