[Resolved] Explain Assertions to Me?

Hey Guys,

I was just reading a brief article that talked about the assert() function and its uses. I understand what it does, programatically, but when I got to the end I still didn't really understand why I'd ever want to use it. Can anyone give me an example or two that might shed some light on the function? Thanks.
