Skip file uploads?

Hello all.

Is it possible to read a local file (users local machine) and execute script commands based on the file without uploading the file to the server?

Maybe ASP (which would suck because I know zero about it)?

I ask because I would like to convert data to SQL without the wait of a 20MB file to upload.

I doubt even ASP can do this even though it can do a little on the clients machine somehow 😕

firstly this is a big security concern which the browser wouldnt allow if its any good IE may allow it :rolleyes:

The only thing i can suggest is maybe a Java Applet or even Flash other than that its basically impossible however they wont be able to execute commands mainly just talk to the client about file size, location etc.

So a PHP script that will read a local file and execute server code is impossible.
