Line identification by number

Using php3, Windows XP Home.
In case of a parsing mistake, php stops its actions and displays the line of error.
What is a reliable way to display the line numbers when checking the php script (offline) ?
Using MS Word 97 was not accurate.

any text editor that will show line #'s and turn off word wrap

notepad2 is one, though i dont know offhand where to get it
