Changing resolution of an image

I need to change the resolution of a wallpaper in php. Im not very good at images so I don't know what results in a resolution change. Is it just resizing the image but keeping perportions? If not, then what?

Oh, I already have a resizing script. Was just wondering if thats the way to change resolutions.

No. You can open the file, and use the imagejpeg function to reset the quality to what you want, and then save it...
