fopen troubles

i tried to use a php script to start downloading a file from another webpage, than the php file is on, but it doesn't seem to work for me. could you tell me what could be wrong?

readfile() open a handle itself, it doesnt need any handle.
just give it a url as the parameter and it does the trick.

oh, yeah it does. thanks, but..

.. another problem shows up. it pops up the save file dialog box, but file to be saved isn't the specified file http://www.hot.ee/fo3/picview1.swf, but instead it wants to download the 'page not found' error page.
the php file is located on the memebers.lycos.co.uk server, so it wants to download the lycos frontpage, to which the browser should be redirected, whenever a file is not present on a lycos server. Now this pops up the question 'why?', since the file i want to download isn't on that server.

any ideas?

** I checked it again, and it seems, that the page isn't the error page, but just an empty page, with a lycos banner on top.. but i still can't see, why won't the correct file start downloading 😕
