[Resolved] ORDER BY doesn't sort correctly

Hi,

I am trying to sort a list of electrical components by wattage. There are many components that have the same wattage, ie: 35,70,100,150 etc.

I am using the following which seems straightforward:

SELECT * FROM $db_table WHERE cat_id='$id' ORDER BY wattage

However, I am getting this sort of thing:

70
70
70
150
150
35
100
100

ie. the same numbers are being grouped together but I can't get the groups to sort in either ascending or descending order. What I need is:

35
70
70
70
100
100
150

Am I missing something obvious here? Could anyone help with an explanation or solution?

Sorry,

Had the data type set to VARCHAR instead of INT !
