I can't connect to my computer

Dear forum!

I have 2 computers. Both running Mac OS X Panther. The first computer is located in my home and is running a webshop (Apache, PHP, mySQL). The other computer is located in the same city but another home, and another isp as well.

I am trying to login to my webshop from the other computer but I can not reach the webshop computer. Can someone please tell me what the problem might be?

I have personal websharing on so it should not be any problems to connect to the webshop computer.

Any suggestions?

First question would be: are you sure the other computer is online and has internet connectivity at this moment in time? Second question would be, is the IP address of this computer a static or dynamic IP? If dynamic, do you have the latest IP address this computer is now using?

Yes the other computer has internet connectivity.

The IP is dynamic, and I have the latest IP the computer is using.

This is tested by talking over the phone at the same time I'm testing things out. And even if the IP is dynamic it's the same IP for very long periods of time, we are talking about several month.

Any more suggestions?

If you're sure you've got the right IP and the computer is online and connected, then I'd ask what changed recently?

I'm not a Mac expert. But at this point, if you're sure of your network, then its a computer problem (either with hardware or software). Troubleshooting on the computer side will need to be done (could be as simple as rebooting it).

Does your isp allow traffic through port 80? You might have to change the port settings. Also, is there a router involved? This could be blocking traffic as well.

Yes I have the right IP and it's online and connected. This is the very first time I try to connect so it does not matter what have changed.

Booting is done as well...

I don't know if my isp allow trafic through port 80. I will fint out. A router is involved on the other Mac, the Mac that is trying to connect to the webshop. The webshop side has no router.

Can you connect from the hosting machine using localhost? If you can it could very well be your isp blocking port 80. Try changing the listening port in your httpd.conf to something like 8000 or 8080, restart apache and try to connect like [url]www.mysite.com:8080[/url]

YES YES YES, it works!!!

They are blocking port 80. I tried port 8000 and it works. Thanks a lot to everyone that helped me with this.

I suggest getting an account with a dynamic dns host. I use dyndns.org. There are utilities you can run that will update your ip address with them so you can always connect via url instead of ip.
