PHP & Windows - Connecting to SQL and authenticating.

I have currently just finished a course on PHP and have briefly looked at MySQL. I have been given the task of extracting data from 3 different databases and writing it to a fourth.

What I would like to know is, is it possible to connect to an SQL database on a windows server from PHP?

Also can someone send me a link to an easy tutorial for setting up PHP 5 on a Windows machine?

I am a newbieish at all of this so would appreciate some clear advice 🙂

Yes, just use [man]mysql_connect/man to connect. You can find out everything for installing PHP at the [man]install[/man] page.

Do you mean MySQL or SQLServer on a Windows machine, or perhaps it is Access that you mean? Whatever, PHP can connect to almost every brand of DBMS. Look in the function list for the one you want http://uk2.php.net/manual/en/funcref.php
