[Resolved] less than date yyyy-mm-dd

SELECT * FROM live WHERE live_date > 2003-04-01 

works fine, but

SELECT * FROM live WHERE live_date < 2003-04-01 

returns no results, even though i know that there are records that meet those conditions

anyone know why this isnt working?
