Automatic links on 'hot' words?

Hey All,

Just a quick q - I run a very large forums and I want to setup sponsor links on certain words, so that when a user posts something, the output is scanned for a 'hot' word and its converted to an html link?

I dont mind having to write my own script for this, just wouldnt know where to start.
