[Resolved] Calling variables from an included file

Hi, this is my last question for today i promise!

Is there anything wrong with the following?

$pagetitle = "index";
$language = "English";
include ("http://www.mysite.co.uk/header.php");

I am trying to call the pagetitle and the language variables from within the included file and it's just not working.

Is there some rule that I'm breaking? I'd be grateful if someone could tell me if there's anything obviously wrong with the above!

Is there some reason you want to include that file via HTTP? If the file is local, just do

include ("header.php");

More than likely you are breaking a rule. When using a URL in an include file you need to make sure that "URL fopen wrappers" are enabled and that you're expecting a processed page.

When you include the external PHP file, the include statement expects it to be processed on that server, even if it's your server. So, if you don't want that behaviour, you'll have to use a relative path (i.e., assets/includeFile.php) or a filesystem path (i.e., /home/username/public_html/assets/includeFile.php).

aha! thanks designguy! thought i'd tried that but i must not have done it properly. i didn't really think that could affect it.
