Date over 24Hr Period

I'm trying to get the date and time displayed over a 24Hr period with 3Hr intervals.

Here's what I mean.

Nov.15, 12pm
Nov.15, 9am
Nov.15, 6am
Nov.15, 3am
Nov.15, 12am
Nov.14, 9pm
Nov.14, 6pm
Nov.14, 3pm
Nov.14, 12pm

I put together some code to do the above but the problem is it doesn't update accordingly.

Say for instance the time is 6:30pm then the date and time over a 24Hr period should look like this.

perfect, one question though. Is there a way to have the time be displayed like this 12pm

edit: Current it displays without the am or pm

Ok i've been looking at that since yesterday don't know how I missed the top two entrys for a, A. Thank you none the less.

Is there anyway to make it so from 6pm to 8:59pm

It displays like this.

Yes and no.

I want to display the time in 3 hour intervals, but there will be a distintive pattern, as shown in the example.

For instance if the time is 4PM then I want this displayed.

Don't quite get what you mean. But i'm ASSUMING you understand what i'm trying to accomplish so i'll say yes.

Entirely untested. Watch out for Daylight Saving.

(Should be ':00:00', incidentally.)

$hours is the hours part of the current time (in 24-hour notation: 0 .. 23.). You want three-hour units. Conveniently numbered 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 21. They're all multiples of 3. It uses the modulus operator % and the subtraction operator - to find the appropriate three-hour block for the current time.

Then it tacks ":00:00" on the end to make it look like a time and uses strtotime() to turn the result into a timestamp.

Walk through it, refresh your memory about what the bits do, look them up in the manual if necessary, try plugging in a few numbers. It's pretty straightforward.

That worked perfectly.

Edit: Gotta ask though.

I'm not good with time among other things so a short explanation would really go a long way in helping me better understand.

Like I said: entirely untested. The obvious problem is that I was subtracting days (86400 seconds) instead of hours (3600 seconds). Never take cut-and-paste code on faith.

Ok,

$hour = floor($hour/3)*3;

find the last hour in the past starting from the current hour that can be divided by 3.

Example:

Current time: 8:00

floor(8/3) = 2
2*3 = 6

6:00 is the time we start with

Example two:

Current time: 9:00

floor(9/3) = 3
3*3 = 9

9:00 is the time we start with.

$ts = mktime($hour-$cnt,0,0,$month,$day,$year);

mktime calculates a unix timestamp depending on the arguments given.

You can use negative arguments so something like

mktime(0,0,0,10,0,2004) will return the timestamp of

30/09/2004 0:00 a.m.
