using a variable

OK, heres the deal, im trying to play music throughout a web site.

Using php seems to be a solution for me. I want music to start on the first page of a web site (when the music is played, a variables value would bbe set to 1, and when it is turned off that varable would turn to 0.

What I want to do is somehow store the value of this variable (and pass it to other pages) so the music only will start or stop when the user clickss on a link. That way the music will not be restarted on every page load.

Can you tell me if im on thee right path with my line of thinking?

PHP is server side and is not a smart way to manage music.

You could use javascript and cookies to do this but it would be better just to use a frame that stays no matter which page is loaded.

But take it from someone who browses the net a lot - don't use music unless absolutely neccessary!!! Ask what it does for your site? Or is it a gimmic?
