Okay. First, some background... I have a simple computer at home. I can't stand the drama of Windows XP, so I'm still running 98 SE. It, of course, comes with PWS (Microsoft Personal Web Server), but I'm not certain which version. 3, maybe. Because of various problems I've had to reinstall Windows several times, and each time I've reinstalled my PWS server, and PHP. The PHP version I've always used is 4.3.7.
Recently I've done this once again and everything went as usual, save that PHP is not working. I'm getting the "Internal Server Error 500", which according to all the FAQs means my server is not configured properly. According to all the documentation I can find, all that this means is that the registry is not configured properly. I've read through everything I can find on the subject and it seems my registry is quite perfect. So, I decided maybe I'd done something wrong with php.ini file. I've edited it probably upward of twenty times. I've turned things on that make no sense to turn on, I've done the same with turning things off. I've restarted my computer each time, just incase it helps, though I doubt it will. I've copied over all the php files, I even downloaded new ones. This time I've downloaded three versions from php.net (versions 4.3.7, 4.3.9, and 5.0.2), none of these have any different results.
Eventually I figured I'm a moron. I've downloaded the .exe installer and the stupid thing didn't help at all. Most recently I've formatted and started over. I've reinstalled Win 98 SE, and PWS, and PHP 4.3.7 (because I'm certain I know it better than the others).
This is quite interesting, though I'm ready to shoot myself. This whole thing makes no sense, and trust me I've done a lot of reading. Any help would be most appreciated. PLEASE.
