Weird php link issue

Hi,
I have a site that allows people to post a link to their home page.

In the DB it shows www.theirsite.com

Here is my code for linking:

 <?php echo "<a href=\"$website\" target=\"_blank\">click here"?>

But for some reason instead of pointing to www.theirsite.com it is pointing to http://www.MYSITE.com/www.theirsite.com.

Anybody know what could be causing this?

I tried changing it to this:

<a href= "<?php echo $website ?>" target="_blank">click here

But still no go. If I just echo the $website it shows as www.theirsite.com. But when I try to use it as the href statement like above it points to http://www.mysite.com/www.theirsite.com.

I tried it without the _blank and it didnt make a difference.

try adding [url]http://[/url] to www.theirsite.com

so

<a href= "http://<?php echo $website ?>" target="_blank">click here
