What would be the best way to make a comment system so that users can post comments on your news items.

Would it be better to write a whole new script that looked for news post ending and put in the comments or have your news script keep the comments within itself?

I imagine it would be best to try and integrate things. If you use a database for the news stories, I'd set up a table for comments that included amongst its data a key that referred to the story.
