make password protected (.htaccess?) directory on the fly?

hey, i'm toying with the idea of adding a feature to one of my db's which will create a directory on the fly, this directory however needs to be password protected, it also needs to have 2 users that can access it, the admin (me) and them (whoever)

i thought the making of the directorys would be easy enough with mkdir. but how to make the .htaccess file, or am i missing something? is there another way? i'm completely open to ideas etc. i'm running on apache.

The same way you create a file (.html, php, etc.) you can make a .htaccess file and put it into the new folder.

$content = "your code to .htaccess";
$fname = ".htaccess";
$my_dir = "/Path to yournew directory/".$fname;
$fp = fopen($my_dir,"w+");
if(fputs($fp,$content )) {
echo "Done"; }
else { echo "Failed"; }

hey thanks for replying, i think i've pretty much worked out the code for the .htaccess file and .htpassword file, but was wondering what to do about encrypting the password?? i use md5 elsewhere but this is just a hashing thing right? what would i need to do to encrypt the password?

hey sorry for delayed reply, so you're saying if i download / install that class (?) i can just your bit of code there to create a .htpassword file???? still a bit confused! sorry 🙁
