PHP and MYSQL questions

Hello!
I would like to know if PHP and MYSQL can work on WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION. I don't have IIS. I did install PHPTRIAD, however, I don't know what to do with it. When I run PHPTRIAD control panel, some shit in msdoss pops up and then shuts itself.
Please help. In short, my two questions are,
1) Is is XP HE compatible with PHP and MYSQL?
2) If so which programs ( direct links would be appreciated) do i have to download. I already have APACHE and MYSQL installed but they don't seem to be working.

if you are starting with php and mysql you can download XAMPP
which will install everything you need for the start (Apache, MySQL, PHP, PHPMyAdmin and much more).

That 'msdoss shit' which popped up and then shut itself was the Apache webserver starting up. It runs in the background so you don't 'see' anything. A webserver is not something that you can 'see' anyway. If, however, you open your favourite web browser and type in [url]http://localhost,[/url] you should be able to see that Apache is in action.

Sounds to me like everything is working fine already, in which case you can start coding.

Now don't you be dissing Apache again! 😉
