special characters and php.ini

My php version is 4.3.6

And the configuration file is at

/usr/local/php/lib

Which file I should go to to turn

"magic_quotes_gpc_boolean" to off?

PEAR is installed on this server.

How can I modify the the set up for the "magic_quotes_gpc_boolean"?

I didn't see the php.ini in anywhere.

if you have access to it, open /usr/local/php/lib/php.ini and edit the line:
magic_quotes_gpc = Off

The problems is that within that folder I cannot find php.ini

there are PEAR classes etc. all kind folder and files. But I don't know which is the one that I should go to to edit "magic_quotes_gpc_boolean"?

I did a search, no php.ini exist actually
