Can't figure this code out.

Hi, i'm fairly new to PHP and i'm trying to help a friend out with a "rap battle" "hack" for his forum...

Basically the system updates itself with the Wins and Losses but i can't figure out how to do KO's (Knockouts aka the opponent recieved no votes at all).

here's the code i thought might work:

    if ( $vote > $maxvotes ) { 
                    $maxvotes = $vote; 
                    $winner = $splitoptions[$number]; 
                    global $winner; 
		}
//this is the KO code i can't figure out!
             if ( $loser == 0) {
	    $leastvotes = $vote;
                    $ko = $winner[$number];
                    global $ko;
                } 
//end of the code that's not working
                if ( $vote < $leastvotes ) { 
                    $leastvotes = $vote; 
                    $loser = $splitoptions[$number]; 
                    global $loser; 
                }

Basically this doesn't update it - and like i said - i'm fairly new to PHP and this would actually be my first REAL script... everything works fine besides the KO part.

ANY help would be appreciated... last time i was here i recieved great help from another member...hoping to get atleast a little feedback?

Sorry, i should also clarify that the SPLITOPTIONS variable is for a Poll...the poll just shows the Vote count.

The K.O. doesn't have anything to do with the POLL.

I think the reason no-one's coming back to you is that it's unclear exactly what you are trying to do. :queasy:

When you say-'... the system updates itself ... ', how?
And-'... can't figure out how to do KO's... ', do what?

The variables $vote, $maxvotes, $loser, $leastvotes, $ko ...
What values are they likely to have?
Have they all been defined already?

Try explaining it again. 😉

$vote, $maxvotes, $loser, $leastvotes, $ko Variables are from a POLL system in vBulletin.

$vote = When someone votes for a person.

$maxvotes = When you set up a battle you have an option to stop it at 1,2,3,4,5, etc votes. So if you had it at 5 votes - it's whoever got to 5 FIRST.

$loser = the person who lost obviously...they didn't get to the "set vote" count first.

$leastvotes = this is pretty obvious... just means the person who recieved the least amount of votes - then they become "$loser".

$ko = this is the variable i made for "KNOCK OUTS" meaning the person who won recieved ALL VOTES and the loser ended up with NO VOTES.

The system is updated meaning vBulletin uses "$username" variables... now $username vs. $username ($userid) is basically how the "BATTLE SYSTEM" is done.

So let's say "$username (Bob = $userid)" was battling "$username (tom = $userid)" and everyone voted for Bob... the system collects each vote as they're made through the Poll system and it tallies up the votes at the end from who had the most -== $winner ... follow me?

So i've got "bob" getting 5 votes and "tom" getting 0 ... now BOB wins and the system has no problem updating Bobs "win/loss" column in his profile fields ... as well as "tom" with his 1 new loss.

My problem is if "Bob" got every vote (total of 5) and "Tom" recieved NONE - it should also come out as a K.O. as well as a win.

So in essence - i need the WIN and K.O. update for Bob ... but i can't figure out how to write this syntax for it.

Again, "KO'S" are "KNOCK OUTS" meaning the WINNER recieved ALL votes and the loser recieved NO VOTES...

I've tried several ways and it's not working.

Is this a little more clear? If not - i'll try posting all the code... but it's basically all there ^ for the PHP part... that seems to be my downfall thus far.'

Not much clearer, I'm afraid ... I haven't used vBulletin before so don't know how it's structured.

From what you say ...
$vote = number of votes $userid has got
$winner, $loser, $leastvotes, $maxvotes, $ko are all 'id' fields

But, in order to compare $userid's vote count with someone else's, surely we need to know how many votes the other person's got. It's as if we know about Bob's votes, but not Tom's.

In terms of logic, though, this is the way to think about it. Suppose we have the situation you described ...

$player1_votes = 5;
$player2_votes = 0;

And (in pseudo-code) you have the following switch ...

if($player1_votes == 0){

$winner = $player2;
$ko = $loser = $player1;

} else if($player2_votes == 0){

$winner = $player1;
$ko = $loser = $player2;

} else if($player2_votes < $player1_votes){

$winner = $player1;
$loser = $player2;
$ko = null;

} else {

$winner = $player2;
$loser = $player1;
$ko = null;

}

... then player1 will win, whilst player2 will lose and be ko'd. I'm assuming there can't be a draw.
