comboboxes that fill on a dynamic way

Hi I was trying to find a tutorial/pre-made script that can fill combo boxes on a dynamic way , tracing the folders that are on the same level as the script (making a list of this folders on the first combo box) and tracing all the files html/htm files inside these folders but showing not the name of the file but the header tag (second combo box), like that we can have a dynamic navigation, and if a user drop a new folder with HTML files inside, the navigation will be updated on a dynamic way, also can be useful to keep track of other kind of files Gif,Jpeg,SWF,etc a navigation that will be updated dynamically.
**2 combo boxes, on the first one you choose the folder on the second one you choose the file (the header TAG will be displayed).

That should get you started.. To use the header for the link in your combobox you'll need to open each file, scan through for the <title></title> tag, and extract whatever is in there.

However..

This will probably be the slowest way to generate navigation ever made. Messing with the filesystem is one of the slowest operations you can ever do. I would very seriously reconsider the way you're approaching this.

Maybe the indexation should be made only if a new folder is added generating a new HTML page that will be stay until the next time that a folder is added.

Now I don't have a clue how to do this I have knwolage on Javascript/html that is why I was aking for a premade script 🙁 any idea how can I achive this ?
