I got hit by the MSRedirect virus the other, through firefox and IE!!!

Anyway, I think that's whats caused my problems. Now when I open IE I get no toolbars.

For a while I could trick it into showing one, by opening a link in a new window, and then once I could see one I could unlock the toolbars, rearrange etc and I'd be fine for that session.

I know I'm using firefox mostly but there are some sites IE is still better for!

Anyone know how to kickstart IE. I don't have the repair option in my "add and remove programs" panel.

First thing I'd do is run spybot and/or Adaware. These programs fix a number of IE toolbar problems.

I'd hoped so! I've done a sweep with a nortons too. Any other ideas?

      thanks

good tools to have around: Adaware VX2 plugin/extension/tool.

Also, HijackThis! in safe mode (f8 during boot, NO networking), can solve a TON of problems (as well as adaware, spybot, and norton AV in safe mode)

Also check your services (assuming 2000/XP) for anything out of the ordinary. (and stop/disable as needed. -- Messenger (not MSN messenger, talking about the "Messenger" service here) is usually a good idea to disable on "home" PCs--as well as "remote registry service")

Spent a good bit this weekend destroying viruses/spyware on my family's machines, so it's a little fresh--and makes me shudder 😃
