[Resolved] Connect to remote computer via ssh

Hi,

I made a "server status" script which uses normal bash commands to find out certain information and send it to the browser, now this works OK on the server with hosts the site. I also have another server for secondary DNS and MX, it doesn't run a webserver and nor do I want it to so I want a script that will run on the primary connect to the secondary using ssh and a much restricted user account execute the necessary commands and collect the output to send to the browser.

Basically all I need to know is how to initiate the connection

Your run-on sentences make it hard to read but it is not necessary to have a web server installed to make a network connection or use a PHP script but it is not clear what sort of connection you are actually wanting or what you want to make it with or when or where because your writing is not very clear.

Sorry about that, my english isn't very good at the best of times.

To try and make it easier I will include my current script. At the minute this scipt runs on my primary server. I want to modify it so that it will connect to my secondary server via ssh and execute the bash commands. I realise the port probing will not be a problem I can just change the IP address.

Right I've come up with a solution, can't believe I didn't think of it earlier.

Basically what I'm going to do is set up public/private key authentication between the two servers for ssh and then in php use something along the lines of

system("ssh user@server2 \"command\"");
