well - i have had several applications on my site that connected on a regular basis (either cron jobs, or upon request) to various remote sites or rss feeds (f.ex. livejournal.com, weather.com, ebay.com,...)
for about 3 days none of these applications get results back anymore from those remote servers. (getaddrinfo errors)
i dont really have an idea why - my hosting company told me they upgraded to php 4.3.9 a couple of days ago- i am not aware of any extra secuity issues that may influence this functionality. (the php build date says Oct 29 2004 16:17:18 - so i am not sure if they actually DID perform this update - the version is correct though).
so - if anyone has any ideas what could be going wrong here now: i am happy about any clues!
