Hello,
i am coming up with a new naming scheme for mp3 submissions on the site where they are all named by an auto_inc number. I currently have songs that are named differently so I am wondering if there is a way to run a script that not only changes the name of the mp3 in the mysql path but also changes the name of the file on the server.

The mysql table has a column for songid and one for mp3. The songid is auto_inc so I want to rename all of the mp3's in the mp3 column to its auto_inc number, and at the same time renaming them on the HD.

Is this possible?]

Yes.

Some pointers: [man]rename/man, [man]copy/man, [man]unlink/man, [man]move_uploaded_file/man

It will be necessary to have the files to be changed in an area where the script has adequate permissions, of course.

This would likely be a one-time thing, also. Two recommendations in that case: 1 - if possible to do it with the PHP CLI, that'd be cool (and exactly what it was created for) 2 - backup your mp3 data first, and run a test case on some other machine if possible ...
