Hey, some of you guys might remember I was stuck at a company that was trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

I've now moved, and am working at a company that's making an airline reservation system (for travel and ticketing agents, not joe six pack) using Oracle and PostgreSQL.

yeah! Happy me. I like my new job, I like Chicago (just moved here) and I like my coworkers...

Thanks E, and yes, I am ready for it, but all my "country wear" looks out of place in this city, except for my trench coat. My hat and gloves though, they're 100% ski wear, big bulky things with no style but lots of warmth.

I can't wait to get a place closer to downtown from where I've been staying the last week. Commuting here is insane.

I'm looking forward to urban exploration here. It's pretty interesting to walk about and look around here. Denver's downtown is so tiny compared to Chicago's.

I don't come back there very often anymore. In fact, it's been about 4 years now since I've been in Illinois. But I still have family scattered out there and my mother plans on moving back there in a few years, so I'm sure I'll be back some time.

Java. But I'm surrounded by guys who know it well, so the transition should be pretty easy.

I don't think Chicago is all that much colder, just windier and darker (sun goes down at like 5:00 right now... wow!)

Just curious - is the ticketing/travel agent software open source?

Well, it's written to interconnect straight with their own software (the ticketing agents and all) and I think there's a web interface as well.

It's all being built on JBoss and Oracle and PostgreSQL.
