creating a language switch

I've got my pages to the point where I can detect the language from the query string, draw either English or Norwegian variables from the database and render the page accordingly (HURRAH!).

I want to add a very simple (once you know how) link which will refresh the page with the exact same URL/URI, but change the "E" to "N" or vice versa. It would be best if I could put the link into the template and use it universally. So far I can't get anything to work.

could you not just save the users language choice inside a session?

that way on all page loads you can check what language the user has selected from the session and parse your page from that.

or if you want a link to refresh the current page just do

echo "<a href=\"" . $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] . "?ID=DBF&LANG=N\">Norweigan</a>";

Well, yeah ... but ...

The problem is that this is part of a university site and most of the visitors will switch to the other language if info isn't available in theirs. It forces people to have to switch "on-the-spot". For example, the Norwegians prefer to read Norwegian - of course - but there are some international research groups who post a line or two in Norwegian and volumes of text in English. New international students and researchers often find there's richer info in Norwegian once they've begun to learn the language.

We definitely need a manual toggle which can override the cookie/session variable.
