Online Racing Community

Hey guys, im a year 12 student, and i will be starting my year 12 major project for software design very soon. This is what i would like to do:

A kind of online street racing community, with a racing game like www.midnitechallenge.com, that intergrates into a custom made forum.

Users can choose from a selection of cars etc, do upgrades etc and race other people. Users can also enter in their own car, or dream car, and choose their own statstics, and the cost to build such a car increases as the stats increase. THere will be many ways of making money, including forum posts, maybe $500 for every post? (this will require some sort fo a system to prevent spammers).

Well here are the main ideas, i have to go soon, so i'll add more details later on.

What i would like to know is, how long do you think it would take approximately?

What is the difficulty level

This sort of thing is as difficult as you want it to be. It could be done easily at a very basic level, but you could definitely spend the best part of a couple of years writing a massive system to run it all if you wanted to too.

Learning software design when you're 12? Crumbs. When I was 12 I was playing Sonic the Hedgehog on my Sega Master System. I didn't have a clue how it actually worked..

No, that's year 12 - 12th year of school.

hehe thanks weedpacket, yes, i am in the 12th year of school, the final year here, before uni. Anyway say if i wanted to make the script pretty basic and simple, but make it so that it can be easily expanded, upgraded etc later on. Is that possible?

Possible, but not easy. Making things so that they're extensible takes a heck of a lot of planning.
