Trouble with decimals

I have benn trying to increment (or decrease) a field by .5 but every time the routine is called it increments by 1. I don't know what I am doing wrong. It has to be something easy. any suggestions would be appreciated.

I figured it out. The field had a integer assignment not a floating point.

You might want to look into a numeric type as well. They're exact. I.e. when you enter 1.5 into a float, it may or may not be exactly 1.5 (or whatever number) due to rounding errors. numeric types do not round and have a fixed maximum non-integer portion. They're generally used for accounting and such.
