How to write this quary

I have a table with a field called 'name'. I want to send a quary to mysql that let me have all names beginning with the letter 'B'. How do I write this in PHP?

The SQL statement would be something like this:
SELECT name FROM tableName WHERE name LIKE 'B%';

SQL can do some amazing things. I encourage you to read some tuturials on the subject.

As far as the PHP portion of the question goes, I'd suggest reading one of the many tutorials on the subject. It's very difficult to know what level of detail you require.

That works, thanks. Now I want to use my variable instead of "B%", my variable is called $letter and have the value A B C D and so on. How do I use it in the quary?
