capturing filename on the fly

I have the following code in each of my php pages:

		$last_modified = filemtime("page_template.php");
				print("Last update: ");
		print(date("j/m/y", $last_modified));

	?>

I wonder if there is a way of inserting the name of the file that contains the code on the fly so that it does not have to be typed in manually each time I create a new file that has this code?

now that I have got the filename, it does however come in this format directory/dirctory/filename.php

How do I split it up into just filename.php?

I am awfully new to PHP so am just starting to dip my toes ... lots of new functions to learn and find! But I cannot see one that is going to help me split up the above string. I guess it could go into an array first and I'd just pick out the final element which would be the filename.php.

But how? 😕
