Your topic is quite deceiving. You cannot do system level work in PHP thats more of a C matter.
Ok about learning PHP and MySQL firstly Id start with PHP. MySQL is quite easy to learn and should be learnt at a later stage.
You can learn PHP from many sites on the web or even books, there is a books stickied thread in the Echo Lounge if you think a book is the best way to go. You should search here for tutorials there are probably 100s of links to tutoials on this forum. Other than that your going to need to be patient because its going to be quite hard at first but once you got the basics down PHP will be a very easy and flexible language to learn
